From NewOrderOnline.com (The other one)
My first live encounter with NO. Twenty-three years on, memories of the night are a bit hazy but one or two things stick out. At one point I remember Barney saying "quiet everyone I've got something to tell you" and the whole crowd went instantly silent. I've never heard anything quite like it at any gig before or since and it struck me as symptomatic of the almost religious awe in which the band were held by their fans at the time. Barney followed it up with "Nah, doesn't matter, I'll tell you later."
Everyone was praying for a JD song or two, of course they didn't do any. I remember being struck by a song involving Hooky playing the very top E on his bass. It wasn't on any of the NO records I had, someone said they though it was called Perfect Kiss or something like that. Years later after I'd joined Digital, "Old Monkey" did me a copy of his bootleg of this gig which brought the memories flooding back. By the way they did Procession second but for some reason that seems to have been missed off the list here.
