Titled 'Sublime - Manchester Music and Design', and published in an edition of only 3000, this is a slim (soft-cover) but very attractive book to accompany the exhibition of the same name which took place at Manchester's Cornerhouse gallery in 1992. Amongst its 64 colour pages are; an article about the Manchester punk scene written by Buzzcocks' manager Richard Boon; a profile of Malcolm Garrett of Assorted Images, with examples of his sleeve and poster designs for the Buzzcocks; a profile of Peter Saville and examples of his work for Factory Records; a piece about Morrissey's pal, Linder by Cath Carroll; an article about Manchester's clubs by Jon Savage; a profile of 8vo with examples of their work for Factory (including - for Durutti-completists - a detail from an unused design for the 'Vini Reilly' LP!); a piece by Dave Haslam about the Smiths' sleeves' "cover stars"; 2 articles about Madchester/Happy Mondays/Stone Roses; a profile of Central Station Design and their work for Factory; plus profiles of Ben Kelly, Johnson/Panas and Mark Farrow. |
